 Unicorns were mythical steeds of magic and power. The typical unicorn had gleaming coats of pure white hair, an their eyes were either sky blue or firey pink. They got their name from the single ivory-colored horn on their head. Males had a white beard beneth their chins. Females were more elegant and slimmer in stature. Unicorns mated for life, and made their homes in open dells of forest they had choosen to protect. Lone unicorns would occasionally allow themselves to be captured and ridden by human or elf maidens of pure heart. Unicorns made loyal mounts and would protect their rider even unto death. The lifespan of a unicorn has never been measured, but it is believed that they lived to be older than 1000 years of age. This longivity was believed to be because of the strong magical nature of the horn. It was also believed that the horn was a remedy for all poisons, making the horn a much sought after prize. Some believe that the unicorns died out as the purity and goodness in this world begin to fade.
